BLOG WARS X - This Time It's Numeral!

I know I say this a lot but I'm still flabbergasted that the event is still going strong in it's 5th year of existence. I really appreciate the support that you guys have given this event. I'm planning to make the tenth Blog War something special. I can't reveal any more details yet (since I haven't decided what I'm going to do!) but suffice to say it will mean more prizes!
After the feedback from Blog Wars 9, I've spent some time reviewing and rewriting the rules pack to make things simpler and hopefully clearer. I've re-ordered the army selection details and trimmed some unnecessary bits. Even if you've read the pack from a previous Blog War you should read this updated pack as there are some important differences.
- The voting is still going (see the polls on the right of the web version of this blog) but it seems that people are in favour of the 0-1 LoW restriction rather than a total ban. Also, people seem reasonably happy to keep allies as they are although that vote is a lot closer.
- In order to avoid confusion I've renamed the "Commander" SC to "Hero". There are too many actual Commanders in 40K (e.g. Pask, Farsight, Dante) but Hero should be pretty unique I think. I may have missed a few instances of it here and there though.
- The missions will remain unchanged from BW9. I was pretty happy with them on the whole. Obviously they aren't perfect but there isn't such a thing. I think there's a good enough mixture to flatter most factions though.
- Round times will remain the same (sorry Dave - get those DA painted!).
- Best Conversions prize will stay and there'll be separate tables. More on this later.
I hope everything makes sense but I encourage you to comment here or on the BWX page if there's anything that isn't clear. I'd also appreciate any rules queries you have sooner, rather than later.
Right then, grab yourself a ticket, get painting and I'll see you at Blog Wars X in November!
Great graphic Alex, wondered what you'd do. Well I did BW1 and BW3, nowhere near as many as the other Weemen, but I may just be in the country for this one! Can't wait! I'll discuss with LH and 6th and we'll hopefully come in force. Thanks for hosting another great friendly tourney mate.
ReplyDeleteGlad you can make it this time. I'd best get some more scenery painted though so I'm not ashamed to talk to you!
DeleteAs always, an exciting day when the Blog Wars number colour is announced... and another curveball with the surprise introduction or Roman Numerals (in fact, I'm still reeling after the shock of BW8 being see-through. Tricky, Alex, tricky!).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, ticket bought. I really hope I can actually make it, but our new baby is due to arrive in late September/early October so I'm not 100% sure I'll be allowed out to play, but I'll try my best!
Graham S.
I think there's probably only about half a dozen people who actually find this "exciting" but I appreciate the enthusiasm!
DeleteI have a hard enough job finding time for this hobby with one child so fingers crossed eh?
Now I feel like I just revealed the ending to Game of Thrones *Spoilers* the dwarf is a ghost! Anyway I'm feverishly painting although goodness knows what the Dark Angels Codex will be like next week. I've got about 800pts done but it's about as useful as a not very useful thing and as much as I would love to have them done I can't promise it as these are a long time coming to fruition so I can't rush them now. Fingers crossed I can make some progress and the wife agrees to me getting to play out for BWX
ReplyDeleteI knew it! It makes sense that he'd be a ghost!
DeleteAnyway, I really hope you can get the DA finished in time (if only so you can finish your games) but I'm sure no-one will complain at seeing the nids again.
All sounds good. Ill definately be buying my ticket, though it is a shame the Gladius Force cant be used but never mind :)
ReplyDeleteWell the individual formations are still valid so basically you just lose the ability to spam free razorbacks!
DeleteTicket bought and now all I can think about is army lists. To sky hammer or not to skyhammer......
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you didn't buy the bundle from GW?!? Anyway, looking at the leaked sheet the main thing that annoys me is they get T1 deep strike but Deathwing don't!
DeleteTicket bought. Now I just need to decide which biker army to take.........
ReplyDeleteYou smashed it with the logo - tempted to get it inked...
ReplyDeletePerhaps over your Umbrella Corp one? ;) Ticket bought mate
DeleteFree entry if you get it tattooed! Seriously though, Dave painted the logo onto one of his precious models so I think you've got to up your game somehow!
DeleteSounds like a challenge.
DeleteArrgh you've done it again - same weekend as Apocalypticon - so see you in 2016!
ReplyDeleteOne year I will attend this...even if I have to swim across the Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteDamn, that would mean I'm no longer the one with the furthest trip! :-P
DeleteWould be great though to have another non-UK resident among the folks. :-)
And the trip is definitly worth it, Greg. Blog Wars is one of the best events out there (unless you're one of the WAAC-kind, then you should stick to other tournaments).
Cheers,
Hendrik
Hendrik,
DeleteNah, I'm a friendly/narrative player. My list is double rock, water. (all walkers). So either everyone roffle stomps me, or I run into the guys who only have str 6, and they cry a lot.
I'll just have to time it so I'm in the area when it takes place as part of a mega vacation. Doubt I'd be able to play, because doing a 10 day vacation + lugging 17 ork walkers around isn't going to be very feasible! :) I'd still like to stop by and meet everyone, shoot the breeze, have some brews!
For those who think about taking Dark Angels:
ReplyDeleteafter having read the new codex it appears as if we need 2+ of the formations to get any decent bonus rules wise.
Deathwing and Ravenwing can't be taken as troops anymore. And no more deepstrike turn 1 for Deathwing. The Ultra Marines have stolen our style (again).
And sadly the flyers appear to be "just ok". The changes to the rules are ok, but the points still seem to be to high.
Cheers,
Hendrik
